After 489 days of building, and with just under two-thirds of the journey ahead, we knew it was time to ask the question that shapes everything:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What does success look like for our user after 30 days of using the product?<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Start with the end<\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t define what \u201cwinning\u201d looks like for your user after one month, your roadmap might be full of features \u2014 but not direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

  • What should someone <\/span>feel<\/span>, not just do?<\/span><\/li>\n
  • What mindset should they reach?<\/span><\/li>\n
  • What would make them come back \u2014 not from habit, but from value?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

     <\/p>\n

    We landed on five clear, emotional, behavioral signals.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

     <\/p>\n

    5. \u201cThere\u2019s something in this product that keeps pulling me back.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Each one is a proof point. Not just of engagement \u2014 but of meaning. It\u2019s not retention. It\u2019s resonance.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      What happened this week (Days 489\u2013496)<\/span><\/h3>\n

       <\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      • We tested these assumptions through live user interviews \u2014 from field units to frontline therapists.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • We redefined KPIs around emotional wins, not just time-in-app.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • We reworked onboarding to trigger at least one of the five "wins" within the first 10 minutes.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • And we cut two features that were helpful, but not aligned to transformation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        10 practical tips for defining user success<\/span><\/h3>\n

         <\/p>\n

         <\/p>\n

        1. Write your user\u2019s emotional state before the product \u2014 and 30 days later.<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Ask: \u201cWould a coach or therapist call this growth?\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Design onboarding as a bridge, not a checklist.<\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Test for value before testing for scale.<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. Define success in sensory and emotional terms.<\/span><\/li>\n
        6. Build in a self-reinforcing emotional loop.<\/span><\/li>\n
        7. Validate with users who challenge you, not confirm you.<\/span><\/li>\n
        8. Track intent, not just behavior.<\/span><\/li>\n
        9. Let every product meeting ask: \u201cWhich of the five are we serving?\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
        10. Revisit your definition every sprint \u2014 not just quarterly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          A sentence that changed how we build<\/span><\/h3>\n

           <\/p>\n

          One of our users \u2014 a combat medic \u2014 said this:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

           <\/p>\n

          \u201cI didn\u2019t open the app because I needed support. I opened it to remind myself that I can give it.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

           <\/p>\n

          \n

          That sentence told us more than any analytics dashboard.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

           <\/p>\n

          The takeaway<\/span><\/h3>\n

           <\/p>\n

          Don't wait for version 3 to define success. Define it before your next sprint.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

           <\/p>\n

          If your user doesn\u2019t feel like they\u2019re growing \u2014 they won\u2019t stick around.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

           <\/p>\n

          So ask yourself this: <\/span>What does \u201cwinning\u201d look like after 30 days with your product?<\/span> And what are you willing to change to help them get there?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
