Today was supposed to be balanced—a few meetings, some focus time, and room to breathe. Instead, it became a marathon of back-to-back meetings, shifting priorities, and constant schedule adjustments. I find myself reflecting: how did this happen, and what can we learn from it?

Here are a few questions I’m grappling with, and maybe they’ll resonate with you too:

1. Do you stick to the clock or let conversations flow?

How do you decide when to end a meeting? Is it better to stick to the allocated time or give valuable discussions the space they need? And how do you recognize when a "valuable discussion" is just noise in disguise?

2. Are you coming prepared with a clear agenda?

Do your meetings follow a structured plan, or do they evolve into a mix of side discussions and new ideas? While spontaneity can spark innovation, it can also derail the original purpose. Where’s the balance?

3. How do you handle latecomers?

If someone is late—especially repeatedly—how do you address it? Do you adjust the entire schedule out of courtesy, or stick to the plan and let them catch up? What’s the right balance between flexibility and accountability?

4. What about unplanned side discussions?

When new topics emerge mid-meeting, how do you manage them? Do you embrace them, redirect them, or park them for a later discussion?

Time is your most valuable resource.

In a startup, every minute counts. Meetings should move the needle, not drain energy.

When someone stretches a meeting or arrives late, it’s not just about lost time—it’s about the signals we send regarding boundaries and mutual respect.

When the day doesn’t go as planned, don’t just move on. Take the time to reflect and learn so tomorrow can be better.
