The day began as usual with a late morning routine, followed by updates and a meeting with friends. I then spent some time working on the live podcast. During today's conversations, a thought kept lingering in my mind – the concept of status and social standing.
In our lives, we often do things to achieve status. For instance, what kind of car do I drive, and what does it say about me? Where do I work, and what do others think about it? What kind of jewelry or watch am I wearing? The titles we list on LinkedIn can narrate stories about our standing.
Why is status so important to us? Why do we care so much about what others think of us? Who's above us, and who's below? Is the number of likes we receive really a measure of success? And ultimately, what defines success? Who gets to decide?
In the end, no matter how powerful, high, beautiful, rich, or successful we are, we all end up in the same place.
Honestly, this time, I only have questions, no answers. But it invites me to consider how, after such a complex period, we might release the grip of status and just strive to fulfill ourselves.
